Posi mod????

What does anyone think of taking the springs and retainer plates out of an eaton posi and putting them into an open diff?? Would this be of any benefit at all???? I catch posi for 4 feet and then it turns into a right tire free for all. Did the factory posi's have a clutch and spring setup in the differential, I changed the fluid in it recently expecting to see a limited slip unit of some kind (guy I bought the car from swore up and down that it was a limited slip car) and there were just spider gears.

Re: Posi mod????

You cant just put springs into an open carrier. You need to replace all the parts to make it a posi.

Re: Posi mod????

I don't think this is possible at all. The open diff's I've seen don't have any kind of "casing". The posi units are all encapsulated to a degree.

Re: Posi mod????

Well, that's what I thought as well but I was given a carrier assembly out of another 10 bolt and it had the springs and retainer plates but no clutch packs inside of it. What I'm wondering is if by having the spring assembly in the carrier if it would take up any of the slip whatsoever.

What's keeping you from doing it properly?

Re: Posi mod????

so you have a posi carrier, but no clutch plates? If so, just try to get some clutch plates from somewhere.
