Formula Rearend humming. pls help
Hey everyone. im new here and wanted to say hello first. Thanks for having me. I had a 2nd gen ( 79 ) but this is my first 3rd gen.
Well i just picked up a 91 formula with a 350tpi from and older couple with only 100k on her. shere is small issues like paint fading and lil wear. no rust anywhere.
So the motor is stock and very clean. What is the acctual HP/TQ rating i have seen different numbers and just want to be corrected. i looked on the main page and saw.
The rear i believe is to be stock. when i drive the car there is a winding noise comming from her. i have not poped the cover yet, but i did put it on a lift and its very hard to turn by hand. I was thinking wheel bearing and hoping the ring and pinion are ok. it does have posi and does burn outs ok i have only done 2 since ive had the car. any thoughts?
last thing.. what is the real difference between the trans am's and the firbirds? reason i asked i dont see any formulas anywhere but trans am's are on ebay cheap.. and reason.?
thanks
Mark

Re: Formula Rearend humming. pls help
Try changing the fluid and putting in the GM posi additive. Seeing as the car came from an older couple, i doubt the rear end fluid has been changed recently. The GM fluid eventually disappears after a while and you get posi chatter, which is what it sounds like you have.
Formulas did not get GFX while Trans Am's did. Everything else is pretty much the same. Most people prefer the look of the Formulas to the Trans Ams but thats a matter of opinion.
