The Camaro shifter handle has an internal snap-ring located below the selector push-button. You may need to get the Firebird shifter shaft to mount the Pontiac style shifter.
Have you considered the "rectangular" style shifter handle from the '90-'92 Camaros?

You will have to swap out the shifter mechanism along with the ****. Try looking in a junkyard. I got mine at a Pick A Part and I definitely like the trans am shifter better than the camaro shifter.

Hmmm, I had no problems mounting a Firebird shifter handle onto my IROC's shifter mechanism. Both the original IROC and the Firebird shifter handles were held in by the U-shaped pin on the front side. Took me all of 2 minutes to swap from one to the other. I definitely like the way the Firebird handle feels and looks better than the IROC one. Makes manually shifting a little easier too.
