t-5 from an s-10?
i have been trying to find an affordable swap for my 91 firebird for a while and i was told that i cant use a t-5 from an s-10(w a 4.3, and including blazer, sonoma, ect.). my question is why can't i use it and am i able to use a muncie 4 speed or any other type of manual tranny?

Re: t-5 from an s-10?
the bell housing would be different for a 4.3 i would guess, so unless they make an adapter plate (which i doubt) it would not work .
this is just my guess though ..

Re: t-5 from an s-10?
I'm pretty sure the 4.3 bellhousing is the same as the SBC. From what I have read, the difference between the camaro t5 and an s10 t5 is the shifter location. I believe the shifter is further forward on the s10 transmission. I also thought I read that you could change some stuff over from the camaro t5 to make it work, but since you currently have an auto, that doesn't help you. You probably could use a 4 speed, because I think they were used in the 82's, but the torque arm and driveshaft are probably different, and I think they used a linkage for the clutch instead of a hydraulic system.
By the way, I'm in the same boat as you. Now I'm thinking I will just wait and save up for a TKO. That way when I do the swap, I won't have to worry about breaking it. The t56 out of a 4th gen is good too, but I haven't seen a single wrecked one out here for sale and I know the wreckers don't have any.

im in the same boat i have a trans from a 1500 chev wt 4.3, but the bell house is attached to the trans, mine was originally a t-5 but thats long gone, from what i can see in the difference is where the clutch fork goes (opposite side)and the shifter looks closer than the t5, but 4.3, 5 and 5.7 have the same bellhosuings bolt pattern

Re: t-5 from an s-10?
as far as i know, the 4.3 s-10 didn't have a t-5. it had a NV3500 the same as the full size trucks. the NV3500 is significantly bigger than a t-5. some of the early 4.3's had a NV1500 i think but it is still very different from a t-5.

Re: t-5 from an s-10?
are you planning on modding it? the t-5 wont be able to handle the much power. out of the factory no 350's came with a manual transmission because it was too much power for the t-5, so they used 700r4. id say find a t 56 from a newer camaro

Re: t-5 from an s-10?
Do a search, it's the output shaft that's the problem V6 T-5 splines are less than T-5 V8 splines. V6= 10 Spline V8= 27 Spline, Also there are different gear ratios. Read this thread. http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tr...ything-we.html If the link doesn't work, it's one of the first articles in the transmission thread department.

Re: t-5 from an s-10?
a t56 would be way better, itll handle all that power. t-5's werent put on 350's because they wouldnt be able to handle the hp or torque
