Won't shift!

Whats up guys. Just got my car back from the shop from getting a new rear end installed. The old one let go with a violent bang, lots of vibrating and such. I didn't attempt to drive the car after that.

Now, when I got the car back, it wouldn't shift outa 1st. Tv cable linkage is good...what's going on here!? My best guess is that the extreme shudder from the rear end blowing caused the governor gear to get chewed up...

Any other ideas? Car is an '85 vette with a 500 horsepower engine and new dana 44 rear end.

Car drove pretty good besides that issue though...

Re: Won't shift!

Ok, The driven gear on the governor is split in half. Sounds like everything is going to be ok.

The mechanic can't get the gear off though...should slide right off, right? I might just have to do this one myself!

Re: Won't shift!

He has to drive the pin out then it should just pull out. No fussy as they say.
You may be lucky though alot of times when te rear end goes it takes the trans with it

Don't say that!

No new developments this morning...I'm about to go out there and do it myself!

Re: Won't shift!

well, just drove the vette 100 miles!

What was wrong? The driven gear on the governor was destroyed. All is well now.
