700r4---to cool or not to cool

just wondering if I need a tranny cooler, my stall converter is only 1800, and the tranny has been in for like 2 months, it does seem like is softened up a bit---only the first to second shift all others are mega firm..Also my miles are mainly highway and few around town, no races or competeion--trying to baby my investments, and also get to my job on a regular basis..No I dont have a tranny temp meter, my cars runs at 220 or so regularly.. I will be changing the fluid again to see if that helps, any and all suggestions welcome..Thanks guys..

If you're looking for your lost 1-2 shift, try resetting your TV cable.

From what I hear, a cooler can't hurt. I have the B&M Supercooler on my car; but then again, I drive my car hard- I feel like it's extra insurance.

Oh if your coolant usually runs 220, your trans isn't staying as cool as it could; that stock tranny cooler in the radiator isn't cooling too much...

A trans cooler is really very cheap "insurance" against heat related failures of an auto tranny. Since you have invested a lot of money in a rebuilt tranny, I would invest the approx. $50-60 dollars in an auxiliary tranny cooler as well.

Pretty simple to answer really. would you run your engine without a radiator? I doubt it. The clutch material in your trans, and the o-rings are much more heat sensitive than anything in your motor. Not cooling the trans is a fast way to a new one. Ask any trans shop what kills the tranny the quickest, and they will all tell you the same thing. HEAT!!! Put one in and spend the money for the most efficient you can buy. B&M sells the best from what I've seen.
