TV cables and shift points: The woe of Ryan
TV cables and shift points: The woe of Ryan
Alright, so I just got my newly rebuilt carb on my '84 Z28.
Start it up for the first time and... not shifting. It just stays in first and revs up way high but never shifts. I did a bit of reading and heard the TV cable might be the problem. So I take a look and looks likes it's fairly worn. So... I pick up a new one, install it *blocking bad memories*, and check to make sure I have return. Sweet, I have a properly installed TV cable. So I set the thing (hook it up, push the bushing flush and have it ratchet to WOT) and cross my fingers. I get in the car and start it up. Take it for a spin and shifts BEAUTIFULLY. I mean does everything right. So I'm happy and pull into my driveway and shut it off. Go inside for a bit and come back out. Get in the car, start it up, and God smites me. No shifting. Gone. Completely. Back to normal. So now Ive tried just about everything and nothing seems to work. Even replaced the trans fluid and filter and all that. Please help me
.
EDIT: This is not the original stock carb for this car. Its a quadrajet from a 1981 Truck. Also when we dropped the tranny pan, there was a kinda blueish kinda seal hanging around the arm under where the TV cable attaches to the tranny, Im assuming the TV. There was also a metal washer just hanging with it. Looks like they came from about where the TV boot goes into the tranny. So they would'nt distrupt the arm movement I cut them off. Car still had that 1 good run before we droped the pan and right after we put the pan back on it also started shifting like it should...only to stop again on our way home
