driveshafts

Being relatively new to the whole F-body scene, I have a couple of questions for all of you very knowledgable gentlemen(?) out there. First off, a little background as to what I am in the process of doing. I have a very plain 82 Camaro with a wimpy little transplanted 305 and a manual trans. The 4-speed that I had in the car decided to give up on first gear. I decided that, while I had to pull the trans out anyway, why not go from a 4-speed to a 5-speed. So I pick up a t5 from a buddy for $200 and yank my trans. Well, I get to looking at the situation, and find that I desperately need to scrounge for some more parts. This brings me to the first of my several questions. Will the torque arm bracket from an automatic car work on this trans? Will the driveshaft also work? The one that I have is 3 1/4 inches too long when measured from yoke to yoke. Is the shifter from a 6-cyl t5 the same as from a v8 t5? The t5 that I have is from a 1987 with a LO3 option (this is according to the tag on the trans.) Any info I can get from any of you would be greatly appreciated.

About the only question of yours I could answer would be the shifter. I don't see why the V6 shifter wouldn't work in the V8 T5. I believe that they're all the same.

well, I recently did the 200-700 switch, which is very similar to your swap. in 82, the frame is not drilled for the longer tailshaft, so you will either need to drill your crosmember(what i did) or figure something else out., the torque arm does not match, the lips are reveresed, and the 4speed torque arm is longer on the speed also(will interfere with the speedo) you will need another drivshaft also, any 84-97 camaro will work. the shifter will be the same, but im not sure if the 4speed bellhousing will work on the t5, if it foesnt, youwill needd to find a mechanical clutch bellhousing.
good luck man

The trans came with the bellhousing. Should I go with a torque arm from a later year? What about the bracket? By the way, the bolts from the 4-speed are 12mm, and the bolts from the t5 are 11mm. Otherwise, the bellhousings are the same.
