Throttle Kickdown Kit

I have a 92 Bird the V6 automatic tranny. I ordered a throttle kickdown kit last night and was wondering how hard this is to change. I was told I'd have to drop the tranny pan. I figured that when I take it to get the tranny fluid changed, I may be able to have them do it. But if it's real easy, I may do it myself.

The 4-3 kickdown kit is a modified sleeve for the TV plunger. When you pull the pan, look on the passenger side; you'll see the lever mechanism that works the TV plunger. If memory serves me, the procedure basically is:

1. drop pan/filter/etc
2. Remove bolt holding TV lever assembly up
3. Unhook TV lever assembly from "eye" in TV cable, [edit] note alignment of linkage rod
4. Remove roll-pin from valve body carefully with long-nosed pliers
5. Remove TV sleeve (and TV plunger) from valve body
6. Check TV plunger for correct stamping on end (written in instructions)
7. Install new TV sleeve (and TV plunger), noting correct alignment of the plunger to sleeve. Also, note the groove that the roll-pin will slide past, and align it with the hole for the roll-pin.
8. Put the roll back in
9. Hook the TV lever into the TV cable eye
10. Bolt the TV lever back onto the valvebody, noting the correct torque spec
11. Replace filter/clean pan & magnet & pan-sealing surface
12. Place new gasket on DRY pan sealing surface
13. Thread some bolts into the gasket to hold it to the pan
14. Wipe the transmission's pan sealing surface DRY, and then put the pan/gasket up, without getting ANY trans fluid on the gasket (causes leaks)
15. Install pan-to-case bolts, torque to spec.

Hey, does anyone out there know if I even need this kit? I read somewhere that some Corvettes and Firebirds don't need the throttle kickdown kit. I have a 92 with the 700R4. If I dont' need it, I'll just sell it, or give it as a Xmas present to one of my friends.

Yah, but that's a lot of trouble just to go back and take it out. I was hoping to have a shop do it becasue I'm not to comfortable messing around with my transmission. Just wondering if anyone knew if my model needed that. I ordered it as a just in case because i was ordering other parts too
