4th gen drivetrain in 3rd gen?

Any body out there done this? Or know of someone who has? I was thinking that a good 95-97 engine and automatic trans would make a great drivetrain for my 84. The engine should bolt in, but the trans would probably need some custom mounting.

If you have a 700R4 automatic trans, and you're replacing it with an LT1 and 4L60E automatic trans, its a direct bolt in.

I just love those 3 words "direct bolt in"!!! Thanks guys. This is going to do wonders for my Firebird when I get it all together.

Actually I am going to go Naturally Aspirated. My goal is to build a 11 second car with no power adders and daily driven. Now if I can go 11.99 consistently, I'll be happy. Then it will be time for nitrous, supercharger, and another car to drive daily.

I am considering the LS1 instead of the LT1.
My question is about the torque arm. Will it bolt in to the 4L60e, or will I need a custom adapter.
With a balanced and bluprinted engine and a little head work, would an LS1 push a 3rd gen to under 12's in the 1/4?
Oh yeah, my 84 currently has a 2.8 and 700r4.
