Is a 700R4 a 700R4 reguardless of the year? The one I want to replace my broken one with in my 89 IROC with is from a 96 Conversion van. Will it fit? Thanx.

If it's a 4L60, it will work, but for a 96 it might be an electronic 4L60E, which won't.

I believe 1993 was the last year for the normal, non-electronic 4L60/700R4.

I'd imagine the 4L60E should have an extra electrical connector somewhere.

The 4L60E has a round (about 1.75" diameter)electrical plug on the passenger side.

Yes, '93 was the last year for the 4L60. And only the Fbody got them. The trucks and other RWD got the 4L60-E in '93. One big difference is the large electrical connector on the PASSENGER side, the deletion of the TV cable.

As for your question, '96 used slightly different valvebody (mainly for the TCC circuits and some others), the many of the '98s have a full faced bellhousing, and a few other differences.
