tranny rebuild
tranny rebuild
my transmition will be in need of a rebuild soon, and i want to know what i will have to have a shop do for me. I already know that i can drop the transmition and have them just do a bench job, and that i can put a vette servo in it. i know that they will have to do the actual rebuild, and a shift kit....but would they also have to do a stall converter, or should i be able to do that myself??.....also what exactly constitutes a rebuild...what do they do? and how much would it cost??
oh yeah, what about torque converters as well??
thanks for any help u can give me

The rebuild really depends on what condition the trans is in. If it grinds and shift very sh!tty, then you need a total overhaul. If it just has a buttload of miles (like mine
) then a simple re-band/clutches is all that is needed. Different (qualified) trans shops charge different rates, so just ask around. As for the stall (converter), it depends on what setup you have/are planning. That will dictate what stall speed is best for you. And yes, you can do that yourself (install that is) right before you put the trans back in.

I see estimates for 700R4 rebuilds go for anywhere from $900 to $1500. Check out http://www.pro-built.net/ and http://www.700r4.com/
