Most yards these days won't sell axles, they'll only sell the whole rear. So even if you think you're buying axles, you're really paying for an entire rear and leaving 80% of it laying in the yard.
Rears go for $75-100 most places for a generic one, more if it's something they can identify as hot rod. 3rd gen 91-92 disk brake posi ones go for as much as $500 if they can get it. I'd guess you'll probably have to shell out about $125-150 and make a couple of swaps before you get the right thing because the "swap guide" book they use says that all 3rd gen F cars 82-92 have interchangeable rears.
You should be able to get those gears used for about $100, or about $175 new. Doesn't seem like a great place to economize if you're paying sombody to put them in since from your description you're putting a SLP take-off Torsen posi in an existing 82-88 rear, so you'll have about $800 by the time you get done with gears, posi, axles and labor. Why cheap out that little bit for something that vital to the overall project, which will cost you $500 to fix if they aren't what you wish they were? Get the gears new from somebody that carries GM Motive and you'll probably be money ahead in the long run if you're paying for labor.

Godammit, The Board screwed up the really Long and Detailed post I had Written, So here it is Quick and Dirty. ( Like a *******, Here it is In a Nutshell! )
These are all 10 bolts...
I can get a entire rear wit Disc For 250 the guy at GM sport salvage here Said. He also Quoted me 150 for a Non Posi, Drum rear with Junk Gears.
Also, 75 Each for 28 spline axles.
Im picking up some 3.42's for 50 bucks, So I got Lucky there Looks like.
now, The Big Question I have here is, WIth my Current 10 bolt Setup, I havve 3.08's. I was Told On another post that 3.42;s Wont Fit this carrier, Is this true ? if So, then What is my best Option, I would assume picking Up a Complete 3 seris ( ? ) carrier rear with 28 splines and Disc ( Or drum, if its alot Cheaper )
What I had Planned to Do was Gather Up two axles, the Posi from SLP, and the Gears, and then pay My Buddy a visit and Put it all Together In the current Carrier I have Now, But if the 3.42s wont fit, Then that is a new problem
Is it that the Junk gears were in the 2 serires carrier, and the Good ones were in the 3 series ? or am I totally off base here ?
Thanks alot guys, trying to get all ths **** Strait In My head so I know exaclt What to look For.
