I think it may be the old park switch from the automatic that keeps you from cranking the car when the car isnt in park/nuetral. Can some one describe how to bypass this?

On secondgens the switch was on the colum (it rotated with the floor shifter.) I am not sure if the 3gen employs the same shift lock. If you notice that sleeve rotating on the colum, you will probably find it there. It's two wires that can easily be jumped.

The neutral safety switch is located in the console, at the bottom of the shifter lever. The connector has 4 or 5 wires, the ones you need to jump to get it to start are the large guage purple and yellow ones. a paper clip or something should work.

There is another place that you may be able to jump the neutral safety circuit. In the drivers side front corner under the dash you should be able to find a two pin connector with the same large guage yellow and purple wires. This is for the clutch start enable in a manual transmision car, and in every thirdgen ive worked on, there have been both connectors. You should be able to jump across the jumper under the dash and get it to start that wasy as well.

I did the auto to manual conversion. Just buy the switch for the manual pedal, or get it from a junk yard. Then like cfabe said just find the other wires under the dash and wire them in. I had no problem finding them and it only took me a few minutes to solder the pigtails to the wires. It is worth it to not do it half assed, you dont want a fire...
