Won't shift from park!!!

I picked up an 84 berlin and have been restoring it. It's been sitting on jack stands since May. The first thing i did was replace all the fluids, plugs, everything. As far as the brakes go, i replaced the pads in the front, bled them, and for the rear drums i replaced the cylinders, the shoes, and all the hardware and bled them. I just started her up a minute ago and the brake light is on and she won't shift outta park!!! Any one know what might be causing this?

Re: Won't shift from park!!!

Your post contains contradicting information. You say it has a t-5, the t-5 is a manual trans, thus there is no park for it to get stuck into.

If it is an automatic sounds like the shift control cable failed.

Re: Won't shift from park!!!

It could be the brake switch, the shift interlock solenoid, the shifter its self, or a wiring problem or a fuse.

Re: Won't shift from park!!!

Can you feel the shifter physically change gears? Maybe the cable is broke or the mounting bracket fell off? I had the 2 pan bolts holding the bracket on, fall out. And I hadn't touched the tranny since the day I had bought the car

Did you check the fluid level after running the engine? Enough fluid?
