200-4r center support ?

Ok, I'm working on a 200-4r BRF transmission out of an 86 GN going into my friend's TTA. He bought this trans under the impression it had been built with billet internals and made into a full roller trans. I tore this thing apart, and it had been assembled completely wrong. The stock thrust washer was placed on top of torrington thrusts, clearances were completely wrong etc..

The transmission does indeed have a billet input shaft, billed O/D planet, Hardened drum, Billet shaft forward drum, etc.

My question, my friend is insisting that the center support needs to be turned down on both sides for the Torrington bearings on the direct drum, and the internal gear. Wouldn't this have been done already, or am I just overthinking this?
Thanks in advance!

I guess I can't give you a definite answer. The only way you might find out is to assemble it correctly and see what your end play is. The fact you said washers were used on top of torringtons tells me something was already turned and probably to far, or something is missing alltogether. There should't be room for all that in the stack up.

Agreed, the washers that were stacked were completely wasted and welded to the rear planet. The whole thing looks like it was forced together. I'll have to measure it, and if its too loose figure out which bearings I need.

Sounds like a nightmare. It's always alot harder when someone works on it first.

Re: 200-4r center support ?

Tell me about it, I'm regretting telling my friend I've built other automatics. I know it was gonna be a bad one when I pulled the front pump, and couldn't remove the input shaft. I had to pry it out with a screwdriver, the billet input when used with a billet forward drum has to be machined down .250, which wasn't done, and caused them to almost weld together.
Good times!!
