Rear end roar/whine

I have a '87 GTA w/ 9 bolt and I notice the rear end makes a roaring/whining noise when my foot is on the gas. If I take my foot off of the gas the noise goes away completely, but it comes back as soon as I hit the gas again. Any ideas?

PS. I don't do burn outs in this car so I have no idea if the posi works right or not.

Probably bearings. If it seems high speed, it's most likely pinion bearings. If it's more like tire speed its side bearings. Should just replace them all if it has to come apart.

Any idea what it costs to replace the pinion bearings?

The bearings and seals don't cost much 100-150 for an aftermarket kit. If you pay someone to do it expect 250 or more for labor.

Re: Rear end roar/whine

if its when your accelerate that you hear the whine its most likely the rear pinion bearing and if you hear it when u let off its the front pinion bearing. might aswell look into getting new gears, a rebuild kit, axle seals, axle bearings and might aswell take a look at the axle bearing surface while your at it.

it will be pricey, its not so much really that its difficult, there are just abuncha steps, if you want the step by step procedures PM me
