I took apart the speedometer gear section becasues it was all beat up. The brown speedo gear had a section which melted. I got new gear and sleeve. Without the gear attached, the sleeve fits without trouble, but with the gear, the sleeve does not seems to fit. Like a DA, I hit it with the hammer only to wreck the gear and sleeve. So, I took apart again and inspected closer. It seems the brown 39 tooth is too big for the tranny, the tooth gap on the tranny is larger then the speedo gear. The leads me to believe the teeth won't fit into the groove properly. As a result, the sleeve won't fit straight. How can I get the proper speedo gear? Can I just count the teeth on the tranny gear and get one that matches? Thanks in advance.

 

UPDATE: I found out the tranny tailshaft has the electromagnetic thingamajig. The teeth aare not teeth, but grooves for the magnetic set-up.
New problem: I now need to replace the tail shaft. Any thoughts are appreciated.
