Dodge Viper T56
Dodge Viper T56
Ive been doing alot of reading on the t56. Ive also decided to go with a t56 in my car. Why is the dodge viper tranny so much tougher than the t56 that comes in the 4gen camaros. It handles a lot more torque. I dont know who is upgrading them. As everybody knows the t5 bellhousing rotates the tranny 18 degrees. An adaptor plate that is sold with the aftermarket t56 rotates it back 18 degrees to the strait up position. But I dont want the aftermarket t56 it only handles 400 lbs of torque instead of 450 like the production t56 does or over 500 lbs of torque like a viper t56. I dont want to use the 4 gen bellhousing because the clutches are expensive, Have to use a different flywheel, and have to change the slave cylinder.
If we could only find a place that would sell just the adaptor plate then we could use whatever t56 be want behind it, I would like to use the Viper. We could use our stock flywheel, and the price of the clutch is about half the price of a 4gen camaro clutch. We could also use our stock slave cylinder.
any body know where to get just an adaptor plate? Any body know where to get a bellhousing that wouldent rotate the tranny?
The Viper tranny uses the 1-1/8 26 spline input shaft just like ours. The output is mopar 30 spline.

You don't have to use the pull type clutch set and flywheel with the fourth gen bellhousing
theres an article in the Oct Hot Rod with a 69 Camaro 400sbc mated to a 94 Viper T-56 with a 97 Camaro bellhousing, Centerforce clutch and GM Hydraulics
maybe some of the experts here can give you more info

Thats a good article and a aftermarket t56 would be an easy easy swap but i want to put a viper tranny in my car the viper t56 is tougher. I need that adapter plate that comes with the aftermarket t56 and I need the longer input shaft that the aftermarket t56 has to make up for the difference. You would think that I guy could just pick up the phone and order those 2 parts but its not working very well

Man, just learn how to not abuse the tranny. I was pushing 350 rwhp for two years on a t-5 with 200k on it. I went 13.20 with this setup on radials.
My 95Z t-56 that I have now has been cryo-ed, and has heat treated gears.
