T5 and shift lite
How does the computer know what gear the manual trans is in? I see nothing in the trans other than the reverse light switch, and thats only hooked up in reverse. The shift light will come on when the trans is in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, but not 5th. So how does it know when I'm in 5th?

I am guessing here. But I think the "upshift" light is a function of RPM, not gear selection or mph.

I have to disagree Tom, I can get my light to come on at any RPM when the engine is not under too much load, except in 5th gear. I know the light comes on around the redline (can't remember at exactly what RPM) in any gear to tell you to shift, but I haven't been able to try that in 5th for obvious reasons.

It calculates the gear ratio based on RPM vs. MPH. With a stick shift that's easy to do.
CAGS in 4th-gens is done the same way.

The shift lite will come on at 4900 RPMs in any gear, according to my manual. It works great for the track as I shift at 5000.
Hey Ron, new name eh?
Thanks for the info. My Diacom shows me RPM/MPH so that would make sense.

Kevin, yeah, I haven't been able to get the password for my old account reset or the account deleted, so I just made a new one.
