How many bolts in bellhousing?

Today, to my dismay, my Firebird wouldn't start. The Starter would not engage the flywheel. I took the starter off and found that the starter had been shimmed wrong (darn garages) and took all the teeth off the flywheel! So, now I am to the point where I must remove the transmition. How many bolts hold on the bellhousing? Any other tips for this situation?
Thanks
Ty

There are 5. Two one each side, and one on top. A little tip, remove the distributer cap.

There are 6 on a V8, 3 on each side; don't know about the 6, the other post may have been talking about those.

Thanks. I will try to find the 5 or 6 you are talking about. I wasnt sure exactly how many there were, or where they were. Thanks for the info anyway.

on a SBC there are 2 bolts aranged vertically on the right and left sides of the block. there is another bolt up and inboard from each of the 2 vertical bolts. if you have the bolts out and it's still stuck it maybe stuck on the dowel pins. hope that helps.

THere should be 6 bolts, no matter what engine! I've had several of each enigine out, and have always had to remove 6 bolts!

I must have been wrong. I couldn't remember. All I could think of is the point on the top. On my 231 buick V6, it didn't have that peak, so I just got a little confused.
