4L80E in a third gen camaro?

I am building a Procharged and N2O injected 335. I am going to be producing 900-1000 hp. In trying to find a transmission, I was directed towards either a TH400 or 4L80E, because the highest rated 700R4 I could find was only to 800hp. I am going with the 4L80E because I will be using a gear vendor under/overdrive with it to obtain a .59 overdrive ratio for top speed runs over 200 mph. Has anyone installed a 4L80E in a third gen camaro? What problems are there, if any? I know it requires modification to the trans tunnel.

My truck came from the factory with a 4L80E. In stock trim it can easily handle 500 hp or more. About 80% of the internal parts are TH400 but that's where it stops. Externally it's a bigger and heavier tranny. You might be better off cutting the entire tunnel out, install the tranny, then fabricate a new tunnel. I don't have dimensions available but it would be a complete fabrication swap.

Don't forget that the 4L80E is an entirely computer controlled tranny. A seperate computer is required for it to work. Computer kits are available to install the tranny into any vehicle but squeezing it into any vehicle is up to you.

DONT DO IT!! i work at a tranny shop and you should listen. the 4L80E is a monster and can withstand a lot, but there really isn't an aftermarket yet for the trannies and a STOCK REBUILD at my local shops is anywhere from $1200-$1500, and that is stock. just put the same money into a bad a s s 700R4 and you will be fine. i have numerous friends who run my shops 700s in 10 second cars and they are still fine

Well my car will probably be running sub-10 sec times and the strongest 700R4 I could find was up to 800hp. I will be running 18 psi of boost with N2O. If you have a 700R4 that will stand behind that much torque, I'll be glad to look into it. The 4L80E I am looking at now is from Art Carr, and I can get it with a 2.75 first gear.

most trannies I have seen are rated in torque and not hp. It depends alot on your traction. you could have 1500 hp and if you are running 275-315 bfgs you aren't going to get enough tracion to break your tranny. you need to elaborate on your setup a bit. if you are not running slicks or a tranny brake you probably would not have a problem. I have yet to see many cars run 9 seconds in street trim so if you are serious about that et and not talking out your *** then you will need something like this. but if you are that serious about drag racing you would just go with a turbo 400 or a glide.
