Manual to auto swap

Want to get rid of my manual trans, and go to auto..( 86 firebird.)I have the correct radiator for this, and know that i need to run Trans lines, and the proper linkage, is this a difficult changeover? I see that most people want to swap to manual, but i have had enough fun changing gears...i figure i can grap what i need from a salvage yard, also a friend may have all i need, as he parts out 3rd gens often..what would be the steps in doing this swap??, Also, where could i find an aluminum driveshaft ?, i believe my steel driveshaft is causing some vibration over 60 MPH..<Birdoffire 86 facelift>

manual to auto is easy. there isn't really anything you need to change or adapt to make it work, other than the shifter. my son did a 5 speed to th350 swap. he used the b&m torque arm kit and had a little trouble with the back up lights, but no major problems.

I've also got a 350 I need to get rid of. I rebuilt it, added a shift kit, and I got the converter, shifter and cooler. The only thing that I don't have is the downshift cable.

All are performance parts. If anyone is intersted, e-mail me.

Good man! autos are the way to go.

You didn't say if you're wanting to put a th350 or 700R in there. If going to a th350/th400 you will need a longer driveshaft made for you (the older stock shafts will work too).
If there is a REALLY GOOD 4x4 shop near you, they should be able to order an aluminum driveshaft kit and build it to your required length (killing two birds with one stone).

The 700R swap is very easy and you will need to run a TV cable to your throttle & set that up properly.
good luck

I am in the process of doing the opposite (700R4 to T-5) to my car right now and I have everything out of the car. The tranny has a new converter and fresh expensive rebuild if you or anyone else is interested just email me - thanks
