700R4 Problem Diagnosis

Hey,
I got something bigtime wrong with my 700R4. I dropped the engine and tranny in awhile back and have just gotten it running and actually chances to test it out. The 700 came out of a late 80's astro van. Here's how its acting:

1) When I put it in gear, it pauses for several seconds before it engages. If I don't give it any gas with the engine idling at about 1500 (big cam high idle) it will just sit there. When I floor it, it takes at least 2 seconds to engage.

2) The TV Cable when I try to adjust it, I pull it all the way back (towards the firewall) and move the throttle valve it does absolutely nothing. Doesn't ratchet out at all.

3) It will go till I let off the gas to shift, I have taken it to 6000 before and thats as daring as I am taking this engine right now...

4) Reverse is EXCEPTIONAL! I put it into reverse and floor it and it will roast the tires bigtime, I have to keep my foot on the brakes to keep it from moving backwards. That is how I want 1st to feel...

I don't have a clue as to what is wrong. Does the TV Cable effect reverse??? If it doesn't and since reverse is so good, then maybe thats all thats wrong. If it effects everything, then maybe 1-2 clutches are goin out?!?! Any help would be appreciated. I've located a good tranny for a good price, but just want to make sure I've tried everything I can before I buy another...

Thanks alot...

I think your problem is low main line pressure in the forward gears, a major internal leak, hemoraging seal, lip seal backwards, etc. Reverse is good because the reverse boost valve kicks in when your select r to prevent clutch slippage due to the typically granny low reverse ratios. It is also possible that you have a problem with your pump slide staying in it's low volume position or a sticking pr valve.

Oh yeah, the tv cable is not going to effect anything in this situation. At idle the tv cable wouldn't be pulled out anyway.

If you have to give it gas to get it to engage you have a major problem. It should engage in less than one second, if it doesn't check the fluid level and condition of the fluid. It should be red in color, and at the full mark. You might be having a sealing ring problem in the forward range. If reverse is engaging without a problem (not having to give it gas), then I would suspect this. If you have a chance give me a call at 800 7763288 Mon-Sat 10-6 PST and t I will be glad to answer any questions you might have.
Glad Too Help!!!
