shifting

I would like to sometimes manually upshift my tranny like when im racing or just bored. I read a couple of archives that say I need a .296 intermediate/reverse boost valve in order to do this to my auto tranny. Now im paranoid of doing this. can I safely do this or do I need this product? If I do need the product, why?
(I installed the B&M shift improver)
Thank You For Your Time.

You don't need that valve. In fact I have never heard of a .296intermediate/reverse boost valve. The only familiar thing in that is the reverse boost valve. Anyway you need a "shift kit" that will allow partial manual control. I thought that B&M kit allowed that. If you don't have the kit the governor will overide the manual position you selected when road speed is high enough. That is how the engine is protected against over revs.
