another stall question?

i was thinking of using a 2100 rpm stall and was wondering if with a 700r-4 tranny what makes it lock up??? i switched from tbi to carb and had the lockup feature manually but then got lazy and dont use it anymore. so i was thinking with my new converter(stall) to get the cheaper one wiothout lockup!?? bad idea? just wondering since i dont use lockup anyway?? is it in the tranny itself? or in the converter only??? its a 89 700r-4.!

the lockup feature is built into the tranny and converter. It is much to your advantage to keep the lockup feature.
It is a simple procedure for a tranny shop to install a pressure switch in your valvebody to control TCC lockup. All you have to do is supply 12V switched ignition power source to operate the solenoid (comes on with ignition key). The converter will lock and unlock on it's own via pressure at that point.
I run both the pressure switch and electronic solenoid in my tranny for more control.

If you're going to go higher stall then go at least 2400 with a Vigilante 9.5". It will increase performance while operating just like a stock converter. The Vigilante also has a larger heavy duty clutch that can be engaged at full throttle.
My camaro gains 2.5 MPH trap speed by using the lockup feature.
