Help Bought a HD Torsen Posi with a spun bearing
I just bought a HD Posi off ebay. The guy said he only used the Posi from the dealer to his house Then he put on a spool. I Recieved the posi today at It all looks great but You can tell it spun a bearing on one side. WHat should I do to keep it from spining again when I put it back together? What causes a bearing to spin? He said it had less than 100 miles on it.

Use Loctite 271 thread locker on the bearing area of the carrier.I'm not joking. It will keep the bearing from spining.Put a thin coat on the carrier and warm the brg. up to about 200 deg.then drop it on.Have a hammer ready and a socket(to use as a driver) in case it gets stuck.Good luck.

A toaster oven works good.I've done it with a torch several times, but you have to be very careful to hold the torch far enought away so you dont damage the bearing.I'm talking hand held propane torch.Aim at the inner race with the end of the flame.Spit on your finger and touch the bearing from time to time. When the spit sizzels it's time to drop it on.Sorry if this sounds real crude, but it actually works real good.If your going to try the torch, practice heating up an old bearing first. You need to sit it on its edge some how so the heat can go through the inner race.If it changes color from the heat you got it to hot(400 degs. or more to change color). Its not as hard to do as it sounds.Good luck.
