To swap or not to swap....that is my quesiton!
Ok....my tranny in my car has lost 2nd gear so I'm getting ready to replace the tranny! I know where I can get a rebuilt 700R4 with 1 year warranty for about $700!! Here's the thing tho'......I found a late 80's model Camaro RS that has a blown 2.8 multiport engine and it has a 5 speed in it!! He only wants $500 for the car so I was thinking about maybe buying the car and taking the 5 speed out and putting it in my '86 TA and saving approx. $200 over buying a 700R4!! It has a brand new clutch plate and shifted great (when the engine wasn't blown)!! Should I swap to the 5-speed or just get the 700R4!??!

1986 Trans AM
305 TPI
200,000+ miles (speedo/odometer non-funtional! Odometer reads 142,000)
4 Wheel Discs
9 bolt Borg Warner Rear (2.77's....oh joy) :P
Completely Stock
Soon to upgrade to a 350 converted from TPI to Carb, Edelbrock 750CFM Carb, Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake, Headman Shorty Headers, Some sort of ported heads (undecided), XE268 Cam, Moroso HEI ignition kit with external MSD Blaster II Coil and an MSD 6-AL Box!!
Current project: Keeping my 305 running until I get my income tax returns!

Dude if you put a v6 T5 behind that 355 your building, you will be driving over that thing when you hit 2nd gear
I wouldn't waste my time.

You will need a V8 bellhousing, flywheel, clutch assembly and a believe a different slave cylinder. The V6 gear ratios are more for economy and the torque rating is slightly lower on the V6 trans. If you found a V8 parts car it would be worthwhile IMHO.
