Tremec 3550 Experts w/in.
A friend of mine with a "Brand X" vehicle has been having problems with his Tremec 3550 5-speed trans. After only a couple of months, it started grinding into second gear. It was also hard to shift into other gears. He took it apart and it looks as if the clutch has been dragging. Anyway, a new second gear synchro assembly cost ~$200. Is there any other transmission that uses the same synchro? Anyone know of a better price? Any other suggestions? Thanks. I need him to get his running correctly so I can spank the **** out of him.

Even though this post is 9 months, I will add a reply.
The problem is probably fixed, but it sounds like the bellhousing was misaligned. That will cause the input shaft to keep spinning at engine speed from it being dragged along by the pilot bushing and the flywheel. The syncronizers work hard against this drag and subsequently wear out prematurely.
I hope your buddy had the bellhousing dialed in when he got the tranny rebuilt.
