Powertrax Lock-Right
Hello everyone. I have a 83 Camaro Z 28 with the 305 HO motor and a 5 speed transmission. Right now my car is a one wheel wonder. I want to put a 12 bolt rearend in it whenever I get the money to do it with. Right now I just want to make the 7.5 in 10 bolt posi traction. I want to ask you all if anyone has any experiance with the Powertrax Lock-Right. Is it really as easy as they say to install, and does it work as good as they say.

Re: Powertrax Lock-Right
Its easy to install but not too great on the street. You should go for the No slip traction system over the lock right.

Get a real posi, I would trade my powertrax for one in a second. In a straight line it works great but in turns the damn thing pops and clicks. Sometimes with realy hards bangs. I will say mine has lasted through some pretty hard abuse over the last 3 years.

Re: Powertrax Lock-Right
Mine did really well too. It is noisy in the turns just as described above, but it is fairly easy to install and it does what it is supposed to do.
You're probably better off not buying it if you are on a budget and saving for a 12-bolt. Save the money and just buy the 12 bolt with a limited slip in it.
If you think you are like 3 years out, well, look for that lock-right!

The powertrax is $465?
And the true-trac is about $365? (if that's still the case...) I'd grab the true trac. Yea, you need to remove your carrier and replace it, but it's not the end of the world....

Re: Powertrax Lock-Right
I run the LOCK RIGHT version of the Powertrax (this is the one he is referring to) and it runs this from Summit:
Powertrax Lock-Right Lockers
Differential, Lock-Right, Locker, 28-Spline, GM, 7.625 in., Each
Today $394.95
Powertrax Lock-Right Lockers
Differential, Lock-Right, Locker, 26-Spline, GM, 7.5 in., Each
Today $396.95
That's only 30 bucks more than your true trac, and LOTS less headache to install.
Beleive it or not, this is the ONLY rear end I would do a lock right over a true trac in. That is mainly because I consider these 7.5/7.625 wonders as disposable rear axle assemblies.
One good thing about the lock right, you can re-use it in another rear end later after you break the pinion or axle shaft in your crap 7.5. Don't ask me how I know...
Anyway, I still say you should save up for the 12 bolt ultimately...

Re: Powertrax Lock-Right
dont waste your time or money on a power trax, i had one, hated it, and went back to my open rear at the time. Deal with the 1 wheel peel and save up for a 12 bolt, or spend a couple hundered on a complete factory posi rear form a 3rd or 4th gen. A 4th gen rear is a little wider, but you can get some pretty nice brakes with it, that you can later swap over to the 12 bolt

Re: Powertrax Lock-Right
I had Powertrax Lock Rights front & rear in my lifts Jeep & never once heard all this clicking & banging everyone is talking about.
Different design? I dunno. I just know I was 110% happy with them in my Jeep & NEVER got stuck, despite people saying..."You can't go that route..."

Re: Powertrax Lock-Right
I had the no-slip system Powertrax in my 10 bolt and had no complaints about it for street and strip use. I do still have that axle with the posi and 3.73 gears in it if anyone is interested. No brakes on it now, but should have the stock drums back on it in a few weeks. I wouldn't recommend these in trucks though, put them in gramps 1990 silverado and dads 2000 silverado. In those if you don't have a good gripping tire or a heavy foot, they will chirp the slower tire while in an accelerating turn.

Re: Powertrax Lock-Right
I'm running the lockrite and it's fine. I don't hear any loud noises, but then again I'm running dumped headers
As long as you can lift off the throttle making turns it works perfect but if you have to make a sharp turn from a complete stop (like turning into the waterbox from the staging lanes) it will scoot a tire for sure. All in all, I've abused mine pretty bad and it's still hanging in there. Same boat, hoping it will keep holding together till I can save up 2k for a 12bolt

Re: Powertrax Lock-Right
I had the No-Slip one for less than a year before it busted. It jammed a bit a metal in the coupler deal and the passenger rear wheel wasn't doing a thing. Drove home with 1 wheel drive. Popped in the old spider gears so I could drive around and saved up for a Currie 9 inch. Been running that with a posi with no real complaints.

Re: Powertrax Lock-Right
I looked up the Powertrax No-Slip Traction Systems and it is $465. The Powertrax Lock-Right Lockers is only $396. I think I'm going to go with the Lock-Right Locker. How long did it take you all to install your Lock-Right Lockers? What tools did you use? Is there any tricks that will help make the job go faster and easier? It will probaly be at least two or more years before I get around to puting the 12 bolt in it. I don't have much time to work on my toys and I need to finish a different project before I get to deep into the camaro. Thanks for all the help.
