torque converters? question about stall speed

I just took out my tranny. Its not shifting right, so I'm going through the thing and check it out. I just put in an 84 700R4 with the 27 spline torque converter. Its all stock. I hate not having my shift kit, vette servo, and stall! My question is, the stock converter for this older tranny was designed for a 305 right? It should have a higher stall point behind my moded 350 right? It seems like it stalls at around 2000-2100 and stock for mine should be lower right? Well anyways I kind of like the converter with the lock-up, the one I took out was 2500 non-lock-up, but this soft shifting junk of a tranny has to go!! Anyone know where to get a manual to step me through the rebuild of my 88 700r4? thanks in advance.
