why is my trans fluid purple
When I did my clutch last summer I flushed my trans case with new fluid. It was red at the time. I just pulled the trans again to get it rebuilt and I noticed the fluid was a blackish/ purple color. I don't think this is a good thing. Can you guys help me out? It is a T5. I used ATF fluid when I changed it last time. Thanks.

Is your trans the original from 86? According to the Chilton's and Haynes manuals, T5's from 83 to 86 use gear oil. 87 uses 5w30 motor oil, and 88 and newer use ATF. Just my 2 cents, but you may have used the wrong fluid in it.
I think he is right. My 92 callss for ATF,though I use 10w30 mobil 1 in my trans.(same consistency but better to ward off heat.)
The older trans designs had different plastic in the synchros and hardness in the gears.
I have friends that are Mustang guys(yeah,yeah...)and they have the same fluid requirements as US!
Check an original owners manual for your requirements.
Maybe I,ll see you at the Woodward cruise.
