t5 fluid change-

I need to change the fluid in my t5 trans. I have narrowed it down to 5w30 oil. Does anyone have a easy way to drain the trans and refill it? Does the fact that it is tilted at an angle pose any special problem? What I mean is, should I jack up the driver's side to make the trans more level or will it drain okay the way it sits (car level)?

Humm, I don't know if you are right or Red Rooster is right here. They told me 80-90wt. Thats what I am running in it. Just thought I would mention, maybe some one that knows for sure will post now Anyways I drained if off of a lift with no problems (car level)

According to the Chilton's and the Hayne's manuals, the 87 uses 5w30 oil. Granted, both of these books could be wrong. If anyone actually knows what to use in an 87 t5, I'd like to hear from them. Actually, I also need to change the rear seal. Maybe if I put the front on ramps and removed the seal it would drain. Any thoughts on this idea?

Hummm, ramping the way you discribed I feel would work. If both your manuals say that they go for it. Also I have a 92' T-5 and there were (?)three(?) differnt T-5's put in the third gen camaros. This may be the reason for the differnce.

yes the 87 t-5s use 5w30 dont know why but it does, some ******** changed mine to atf and boom now i am getting a rebuild, so use what the manual says. the angle its on doesnt really pose a problem its pretty easy to drain and fill.

Thats interesting, I thought the 83-87 T5 uses 90wt gear oil, or ATF, and the 88-92 WCT5 uses ATF *only*.

FastCamaro- I drained and filled it today. Car Craft did an article on a t5 buildup and they plainly stated that "All t5's use ATF"! Glad I checked on here and in the books before I did mine. Trans is smoother with the 5w30 in it.

i run atf in my 87 t5 trans with no problems. ATF and 5w30 i heard (from a reliable source) that they were close to the same viscosity. someone had 80w90 in the trans when i got my car but feels much better with the ATF in it.

my question is, does anyone use redline MTL in their T5??

i use the ATF fluid in my T-5 that is in my 1991 S10. i just unscrewed the drain pulg to see what was in there. and the ATF came pouring out. Gear Lube doesnt come out (that easy) so i knew it was ATF. and only use dextrol(sp?). that is what my manual said.
i know this isnt for a camaro, but they have the same trans.
