transmission grinding

Yesterday i was Pulling my camaro on a trailor with my chevy p/u, 5-speed and it was on cruise control doing about 70 on a flat surface and all the sudden the rpm's shoot up to 5 grand and i hear this grinding, its not catching at all,so i pull it out of gear, by the way it ws in over drive, (that probably wasnt a good idea) and i held the clutch pedal down and the noise stopped, and i shoved it in 4th and let off and it did it again. So i'm pulling the tranny as of now and about got it out, but before it went out it ws making a real bad whining noise and a chattering, im almost positive thats the t/o bearing, but if the t/b is copletley bad would it just make it grind or is my clutch shot? it does this in every gear.

91 chevy p/u 5 speed
