Why won't the B & M Console Megashifter work in an '88-'92 Formula???

Just noticed B & Ms latest ad for the P/N 80692 Console Megashifter shows it'll fit 1982-1992 Camaro and Firebird except 88-92 Formula. I wasn't aware that the console in the TA and Firebird was different than the the one in the Formulas. I know for a fact that the Megashifter won't fit in my console though...the gear indicator plate that comes with it is larger than the cutout in my console. Does anyone know if just the plastic upper trim piece can be swapped out with a TA piece, or is the console itself also different.

TIA

it will work with some modification i did it. basically u just have to cut the top console piece a little and take the black metal piece that comes with the shifter and screw in on top of your console hopefully in the next couple of weeks i will have pics..

Hookin's right, the console top needs modification. That's why B&M says it won't "fit"- they mean a "drop-in-perfectly" fit. I don't know if you've seen the console of a Camaro, but it has torx bolts that let you remove the shift plate from the console top. The B&M Megashifter plate bolts in it's place.

For my Megashifter install, I put their shift plate against my console top. Then I traced it so that there'd be a hole big enough to take the shift plate & shifter hole, but with enough room to take the four corner bolts of the shift plate. Then I used a cutting tip on a soldering gun to cut the plastic (what a stink!), and used a file for the "final" fit. Then I carefully drilled the plastic to take the four torx screws. The shift plate fit "exactly" between my power window switches and ashtray button.

When I had the auto in the car all I did was remove the stock boot off the top console and switch it with the rubber one that comes in the kit, Just screw the four screws into the second rib of the boot. Best thing about it is it looks stock and it works great!
