bolt patterns for tranny

I have an 89 iroc with a 350 tpi that the tranny went out on, I've been calling around to get a tranny from a junk yard for it but no one has one for a 350. I asked someone why a 305 th700-r4 wouldnt fit and he said the bolt patterns were different. Would i be able to drill new holes to be able to bolt up one from a 305? and I was also thinking about buying a 5-speed set up but a web page i went to said that 350's diddnt come with a 5-speed because of emission problems, so woulndt i have to make new holes for that to if i could?

They're probably talking about the flex plate. The 305 should have the small flex plate and the torque converter bolts from a 350 won't line up. A dual bolt patter flex plate will fix that problem.

As for bell housing bolts, All SBC have the same bellhousing bolt pattern.

no the 350 and 305 700r4 are excactly the same same converter same fly wheel. the only thing I would do is get one from an 88 and up 3rd gen although caprices will work too they use differant springs and possiably differant shift points.

the 91-92 700R4's are alot stronger than the older ones so i would go with one of those
