700R4 Tranny Hard Everlasting shifts

I couldnt find this one in the records so heres the question:
I've got a 700R4 tranny that shifts real hard when cold but at operating temp shifts like a squishy tomato.
No shift kit, no nothing, stock ****. stock engine too (305 TBi) Im putting a big 475 HP engine in soon and im afraid of blowin up the tranny, would it be O.K. to add a shift kit then run it with a big engine? or pay like $1800.00 for it to be rebuilt race ready? i really dont wana dump money into it if i dont have to.

If you are thinking about buying a transmission for 1800.00 think twice. You don't need to fork out that type of money when you can buy the best built Street/Strip 700R4 transmission in America for 999.00 with extra's which include deep pan, stock converter, 12000 GVW trans cooler and a inline filter and a 1 year unconditional warranty. I have been named by Consumer's Business Review of Reno Nv as Transmission Specialist of the year for 1998, 1999 and 2000.We have been in business going on 6 years and our specialty are 700R4 transmissions. Thanks F.C.

I guarranty when you put that motor in front of that tranny, kiss it goodbye. As for a place to get a good trnny, F.C. beat me to it. Try thetrannydoctor.com I talked to F.C. and for the first time in aftermarket history he didn't give me the run a round or try to sell me something that i didn't need. He seemed very down to earth and if you have the money deffinatly buy from him.

The stock transmission is not going to hold up against any type of horsepower. The problem you are having now is possibly in the TV circuit and/or major internal sealing problems, this shows up more when its warmed up. What type of driving are you planning to do? Street/strip? Road racing? etc. What is the rear end gear ratio? How big is the camshaft (duration at .050 lift)?, these factors will determine the stall speed that will work best for you. Stay away from the 12" lockup torque converter. (1) It is very heavy. (2) Does not multiply torque well (1.5-1.7 multiplication factor) (3) Is harder on the gear train due to its weight. There are a couple of torque converters I recommend. (1) Is a 10" non-lockup TC from Continental (stalls available from 2,200-2,800 rpm), or (2) The 9.5" Vigilante lockup (stalls from 2,200-3,200). Both of these torque converters multiply torque at a higher ratio (2.2-2.5 multiplication factor or more), this will give better ET's & MPH in the quarter mile. Due to its lighter weight it transmits less shock to the gear train (less parts breakage) The transmission and torque converter come with a one year warranty. Glad Too Help!!!

yeah ive talked to you on the phone before. my main reason for posting is due to reading about people that had a really nice rebuilt tranny (rebuilt stock or near stock) that shifted hard when new, but as they aged, they began to shift more looselly. right now mine shifts lossely all the time, and would adding a shiftkit be expensive and would that shift kit allow me to ALWAYS have really hard shifting till the tranny basicaly blows up. its already got 80K miles on it, and everything runs great...

How many of you have transmissions built by The Tranny Doctor? I'm gonna be in the market for a beefy transmission soon, and for the money, I don't think I could build one myself! I have heard good things about Pro-Built, but I just want a comparison.

My other idea is to find a newer core, and build my own, with components from various sources, but I'm just getting into Automatics, and I'm not all that confident I can build one for 430-450 HP and have it hold up.

Added dual elec fans.
145 MPH IROC Speedo
Building 430 HP 350 (ZZ430)
using primarily GMPP parts.
Short block sitting on a stand.

My 700R4 just died on me, at least first and second gear did. I called Dana at Pro Built on Fri and he is doing his stage 3 for me, along with a 9.5" lockup Vigilante 2800 stall speed converter. His build time is 1 week, so hopefully I will be posting back the results this same time next saturday.
