TV Cables and Demons

Just wanted to get some input on what everyone else is doing about their TV cable situation when running a BG Demon and an auto (700R4/4L60).

Mine still seems to have issues.

What I am running:
  • A modified bracket that attaches to the throttle bracket on the BG Demon. Its originally a part designed for Holley 4150's which is a similar carb. Holley, Sonnax and TCI all sell the part. I had to notch out the center a bit because the nut that attaches the throtle bracket to the throttle shaft on the BG bulges out, whereas the Holley has a shorter connection there.
  • A cable bracket setup from Jegs. Its their billet accelerator cable bracket which also I got the bottom mount for the TV cable to attach to it. Both the Acc and TV mount tabs are adjustable.
  • Stock 1986 replacement GM TV cable
I can get pics up soon.

I had a Holley made Acc and TV bracket on there when I was running a Holley 4150 before. It worked in conjunction to the first part (the throttle lever bracket) that I mentioned. Bothe were made by Holley and designed to work together......tho IDK why they sold them seperately.
Really never worked right then either IMO.

Ive seen the BowtieOverdrives setup which is specific to Carb setup and cable type. But Im not spending $100+ on some crap that doesnt work....and you have to put their spring in the VBody.
Ive seen those little Sonnax TV Corrector springs that just extend and cushion the starting point of the cable.

I am also running a Perf RPM intake if you need to know that as we..
I can get a video clip of the throttle lever action from Closed to WOT if needed. And as many pics as well.

THX in advance, Michel

Re: TV Cables and Demons

What problems are you having?

Which PN's did you get? I got a holley part for the 700R4 and its just one bracket that accomodates both throttle and TV cable. Im alsoo running a 4150 carb, and performer RPM intake. I got rid of my 700R4 for a T56, but the bracket is still in place cuz it didnt require a change.

Re: TV Cables and Demons

OK. I used to have that exact same bracket you have pictured from Holley.
(#20-95) http://www.holley.com/20-95.asp
IDK where it is now tho.

But that is suposed to be used in conjunction with the flat bracket that adds the TV stud in the correct position on the Holley carb's throttle lever.
(#20-121) http://www.holley.com/20-121.asp
I am still using this part. But its modified (notched) to fit and clear the BG Carb throttle lever nut.

The Jegs made Billet bracket I have is just like Holleys billet accel and tv bracket setup. (20-112 / 20-119) Which the 20-121 is suposed to work with also.

Ill get pics up and explain more....

Re: TV Cables and Demons

Ok visual is usually best.

The bracket that installs on Holley throttle levers is flat. Had 2B notched for fitment to the BG lever. Can see it here in the next pic somewhat behind the Jegs bracket.

The Jegs bracket with the additional TV bracket. Both the Acc and TV bracket 'tabs' are adjustable. The Accelerator cable 'tab' is exactly where it needs 2B to get throttle rest and WOT. The TV 'tab' is under the Acc 'tab' and both use the same mount screw/nut to set in place. The TV 'tab' will slide/adjust independently but its range is limited by where the Acc 'tab' center is.

Im going to try to slide the TV tab more forward toward where it fastens to the throttle lever. Because right now I have to tug it just to make it to where it clips on and thus it goes ahead and clicks the TV Reset Ratcheting 2 clicks to start out with.
Accelerating to WOT ratchets out more.
I assume I need to be able to pull it to the rest position without it clicking to start out with.
From there IDK if its adjusted good or not.

A pic of the entire thing.

Re: TV Cables and Demons

Thats odd, i dont know why youre using that flat bracket, ive never heard of it. If you look at my pic, i just bought a set of those studs. Holley sells a little kit with assorted studs, and one of them fit the TV cable tab.

The adjustment calls for moving it IN (back of the car) as far as the cable will go, by depressing the tab on the side. Then attach the cable to the throttle lever, and push the pedal to WOT. You will hear a ratcheting sound, and thats it, its adjusted.

Im not sure why you cant get the TV cable on with the old bracket, i guess the demon is a bit different.

Re: TV Cables and Demons

Well, according to Holley those parts are 2B used together. The BG throttle lever is identical to the Holley with the exception of that attachement bolt.
Suposedly the way you have it would be incorrect geometry.
I had a Holley 750 DP (similar to the BG shown), and the same setup.

I bought some studs that fit the throttle and tv cable from edlebrock or somewhere. Worked like a charm and havent had any problems yet. The flat bracket isnt nessecary imo.

Re: TV Cables and Demons

Hmm....well then where the one pictured above (online170's post) is at is where I have that bracket attached on the bottom point. Therefore the reference point of attachemnt versus mine would be more forward and a bit lower.
So in respect to that and having the Jegs (CSI or Holley) billet bracket, where would the TV cable snap-in mount be positioned. Further forward than I have it pictured in my post or near the same position?

Re: TV Cables and Demons

It shouldnt matter, because you can adjust the TV cable.

As long as it doesnt stop ratcheting before you hit WOT, you should be fine.

Re: TV Cables and Demons

Well, I farted around with it today a bit and heres the update.

For some reason I had the TV mount a bit too far back so that when I pulled the TV cable out to connect to the Throttle, it already ratcheted 2xs. (click, click). Meaning I was already too far in on the TV plunger.
So I repositioned the TV mount closer forward on the Jegs bracket. Reset the TV cable. Pulled the cable tab and connected it to the Throttle bracket. No clicks. Did the WOT reset. It ratcheted out a few clicks.

I took it for a drive. The 1-2 shift is there now firmly weather Im in Lo and doing my own upshift or in Drive and letting it do it on its own.
But the 1-2 shift is a bit late and a bit harder than needed at the given trottle input. So there is still some adjustment needed to bring that back within reason. I forgot to look at the 1-2 shift speed but will get that on the next drive.

However I never gor a 2-3 shift. Seemed like its got weak pressure or something on that circuit. I need a fluid press gague I guess.

Having read those things, anyone think Governor or TV?

I do have a governor that had been modified with the B&M Recalibration Kit. Maybe I need to jack a stock Gov from the junkyard and try that. IDK tho

Ok the 1-2 shift is at 15mph.
No 2-3 shift and I hit about 40mph.
The 1-2 shift is just a tad too firm IMO.

I dont know about your bracket and how long the slot is on it but on my CSR bracket the piece that holds the TV cable is all the way forward on the slot it connects too. My throttle cable is all the way back on the slot like yours is in the pic you have.

Re: TV Cables and Demons

I think I need to go more toward the front of the car with the TV Mounting Tab. If you look at the Holley bracket online170 posted, you will see that he has a stock throttle cable and where Holley (and TCI) mount the Throttle tab in relation to the TV tab, mine is currently farther back.
I did move it forward slightly today, but from that pic, I still need to go more.
Online170, if you have time, measure the distance between the Throttle mount tab and the TV mount tab on that Holley part.
Ill figure out my other part later on.

1-2 shift should be 15 mph 2-3 should be at 25-30 mph
3-4 should be 40-45 mph under light acceleration

mine are pretty close but i think im gonna play with it some more and the tv cable is out one click on my adjustment

Re: TV Cables and Demons

here's the bracket i had to weld up for use with a vortech carb enclosure. excePt i had to re-do it when i realized i put the tv cable on top by accident. It's a holley braket welded to a stock tbi truck bracket with a piece of flat stock. I call this bracket "frankenbracket". I have to figure out how to attach the tv cable to the carb enclosure throttle linkage now, since the tv stud doesn't fit onthe carb enclosure linkage.
