IS THIS A TRANNY HELP FORUM????

every time i get on the highway and shift into 5th, i hear a sqealing noise, also when i try to downshift from 5 to 4 the shifter feels stuck and it wont move. i can hit it up a little and it is free but it wont find 4th gear until i i go into 3rd and then into 4th. sometimes when i coast up to redlights it make the noise as well. everything is peachy until i get on the highway and try to downshift. i drive it everyday to work and such, but i never have to go in 5th. it seems fine until highwaytime. btw it shifts from 4 to 5 fine when i get on the highway, but that is when it starts making the noise. please help.

I don't really know what to say, perhaps it needs a total rebuild bearings would be my guess

Sounds to me like the 3rd-4th synchro is shot, and/or there's too much gap between the clutch gear and the mainshaft. Not a pretty sight in either case.

What part of Memphis are you in? I just moved from there a few months ago.

No, I have no idea who could rebuild a T-5 there... I always did my own, as well as making lots of money over the years doing manual trans rebuilds (mostly 4-speeds)

I lived near Summer & Graham. You might possibly have seen my car at some time, it's a 83 Z28, silver, t-tops, good paint (rare!), 87 IROC wheels, looks totally normal until it leaves
