Okay, the TH-350 in my '78 vette is doing some funny things and I just want to make sure I'm accurate in my diagnosis. The first two forward gears pull/shift hard with no problems whatsoever, but my third is on the fritz. I'll be driving along and then BOOM my RPM's skyrocket and no forward drive. Bad clutches? Anything else I should look for/try before replacing or rebuilding? (I tried the F-type, didn't make any differenace whatsoever...I figured what the heck...)

could be any number of things, oil pump, valve stuck, or clutches
