700 to th-350 swap, ADVANCED questions, please read

Hi, I have successfully done the 700r4 to th-350 swap in my 84 camaro. I have the bracket for the torsion arm, and all is fine. But everyone on this board said that a th-200 driveshaft would fit perfect, if I had the 6 inch tailshaft on the th-350. My dad just picked one up for me, and he says it doe'snt fit. is it a specifec model of the th-200? and will the th-200 tranny mount work too? cuz my orig 700 tranny mount does'nt fit. thank you

Is it to short/long? If not you might try dropping some greese on the driveshaft to get on the output shaft. I had a hell of a time trying to get my driveshaft in the trannie till I give it a liberal greesing.

I don't know about the mounts, my came with the 200C, so it was a perfect fit. The 700 mounts might be bolted up further back, so you might need to drill new one ?

Nothing special about the TH-200C, I don't think there where any short or long shafts available.

Good Luck,

Ron C. Terry

Let me ask you this is your dad 100% sure he got a DS from 200c car. GM only put 200's, in all 82 cars, and a few 83's. Everything else were 700's,except for the TTA's. I just finished parting out an 83FB w/700. If you do have a 200DS then it will fit fine, a TH350 and 200 are the same length, and have the same output shaft diameter. As for the crossmember they are different. My 200 crossmember has a second crossmember about 1.5 inches above the primary member. The tranny bolts to the second not the first.
If you need any more help let me know.

I just finnished doing the same swap in my wifes 82 Z28. She also had the TH-200c tranny and everything bolted right up with no problem.
Spud - what heads do you have on that motor? We just put a very simmelar combanation in my wifes car... it is a 355 with forged flat top pistons (will get the bottle after we get another hood), the 214/224 summit cam, a Performer RPM intake, Holley 750 vacuum secondary, 1.6 Harland sharp roller rockers, Headman headers, and a 3" MAC cat back system with duel 2 1/2" tail pipes. We still have the factory rearend in it but that will change soon. This was just a cheapy throw together motor for now (because I have 2 other vehicles to get running at the moment) but later she will be getting a set of Pro Action heads and the Extreem energy 236/ 244 hydrolic roller cam. We are going to crank it up this weekend and have the exhaust hung and next weekend we are going to drive it to Houston to race at Navasota... so there will be video of her racing on www.RankinRoad.com after that.

I am running a set of junk yard 993's. All that was done to them, was I hand lapped the valves back in to the seats, and replaced one slightly bent valve. As for the cam its mild cruising, but has a good lope when your into it. I did find out that a 2000 convertor was to small, It was extremely doggy out of the hole until it hit 2600+/-. So I went with a 3000. Just with the convertor change I gained 3 thenths in the 8th. Also I put 4.11 gears in it. I am waiting for the rear to go. At least I know it is safe till next year. I just finished winterizing it today.
I am estatic with the way its running. I was hopping to hit the 8's and in the mid 8's. I havent ran it in the quarter I have to get a trailer, I don't trust it to drive an hour and a half, one way.

I just noticed. How much hood clearance does the RPM give you. I was planning on gettin a stealth or RPM this winter, I do have a 1.5 in drop base air cleaner.

The RPM intake just barly fits under the hood.... If you remember the 82 crossfire cars had the fiberglass hood with the functional flaps. I had to remove the assembly that worked the flaps (unfortunatly the flaps were attatched to it) so she has two holes where the flaps used to be. I guess it would be some good ram air if she had the new K&N air cleaner lid. With a regular hood it will fit with no problems it will be close but it will fit. BTW she has a 14" Moroso air cleaner with a 3" K&N filter.

We have a 2200 converter in her car also and a set of fresh 882 heads. Everything we have put this set up into has turned low 14's to high 13's in the ¼ so it will be fun for her first hot rod. One thing about this cam is they LOVE nitrous. With the wide C/L that they have and being a split grind they come alive on the bottle.

Thats great. I didn't know these cams liked nitrus. I want to put it on the bottle. But I wont until I get my fuel problems figured out, or the lack there of at high rpm's. I don't think my fuel pump is keeping up.
Thanks
John
