TKO tranny
Thinking about going for a TKO instead of a T-56. Seems like an easier install considering i have the lakewood bell and wont have to fool around with clutch. Anyone know the Ratio in it. Also is there anything i should expect as far as the install!
Thanks

The TKO has to be modified to work with a small block chevy. Fortes sells a kit with their Tremec transmission that allows it to work in our cars. The input shaft is changed, there is a new yoke and u-joint included, a spacer to set the trans back so it will fit the shifter hole and allow the stock drive shaft to work, new shifter and parts to relocate your crossmember.
If you have the Lakewood housing already how about the Richmond 5 speed?

Hey year one offers a complete conversion kit too, and it is an easier swap than the T56 (plus it has the speedometer hookup, etc) What are you using for a clutch and flywheel? To my knowledge the Lakewood bellhousing for 84-92 Camaros only works with the 153 tooth flywheel and 10.4" clutch? Can that bellhousing hold the 168 tooth wheel and 11.0" clutch?
I wasnt aware i had to change to an 11 inch clutch. I have a hayes flywheel which will accept a 10.50 clutch im running a centerforce dual friction in there now. I think the input shaft will fit the 26 spline from darkhorse. Is the richmond as strong as the TKO and how much.
don't panic
you don't have to have an 11" clutch. I just asked the question cause i would like to use an 11" clutch with that bellhousing. The tremmec will work with the 26 spline 10.4" clutch just fine. The Richmond is rated to 450 lbft (last i had read) but it has no overdrive, and the shifting is not nearly as smooth as the internal rail Tremmec. Also, the cost of one of these is about $1800 new plus about $300 for the shifter. for less than that you can get the TKO rated at 525 lbft with overdrive. However, i would make one suggestion: If you go the Tremmec/TKO route, i would buy it from Year One or fortes. I have heard on this board and others that Dark horse does not do as good a conversion (with the input bearing retainer and input shaft) as Fortes does. So its worth the few extra bucks to get one from forte's (just my two cents, take it for what its worth)

They also carry the Yoke, crossmember, etc for the TKO
