700r4 acting up need help.
my brother had a 700r4 that was toast and my bud had one in a car he wrecked about 12 years ago that he gave us. 30,000 miles on it. we anyway the thing rips but in first then slows in second and acts like it shifts while still in second. i guess the tq converter is locking up but its only going 20. then 3rd gear is weak and so is od. i guess the only gear that works correctly is 1st. ive cheked the valve body it seems ok. I put some trans tune up in it still no go 2-4. there was no evidence that the old fluid was burnt and the guy did start the wrecked car and drove it around once a month to keep it lubed. need help! I have 2 extra 700r's but i dont want to pull his out again unless i have to.

Your 4th gear pressure switch probably went bad if it is the tcc locking. If this switch failed shorted, the only gear the tcc won't lock in is 1st.
Try this test. Put it in 2nd and drive at a steady speed. Lightly apply the brake (just enough to turn the lights on) while using the other foot for the gas. If the engine revs a little higher then slows back down when the brake is released, either the switch is bad, or the wiring is different for that trans, or hooked up incorrectly.
I hope it's this (much easier fix than internal prob)
