torque converter replacement questions

a couple weeks ago i pulled my 700r4 (new maybe 2000 miles on it) to swap to a higher stall converter. before i pulled it the tranny never leaked at all. so i pulled the tranny and it sat on a tranny jack for 5 or 6 days with the stock converter sitting on it. well my naext day off i went back and swapped converters then through then tranny back in. ever since then i have been leaking fluid. it puddles under the cooler lines, probably just not tight enough. but the other puddle is under where the torque converter is. it is just a small puddle. nothing huge. now my first question...i didnt replace the front pump seal since it wasnt leaking before. is it required to change that seal everytime you pull the converter? second, since the converter was putting all its weight just on the seal for a couple days, is it possible that it developed a flat spot and it will even out after a little bit of driving? i am not wanting to pull the tranny again if i dont have to. thanks for the help!!!

Re: torque converter replacement questions

Does it leak when it's running or after sitting engine off. If when running may be the pump seal. If it leaks when sitting over night you may have damages the dip stick seal or the TV cable O ring. Hope this helps

Re: torque converter replacement questions

the spring inside the front seal could be messed up or have fallen out. part of the seal could have folded in too, this happened on my timing cover's crank seal and i had problems

i checked it for leaks with the engine running in neutral and in gear(e-brake pulled) and it wont leak. it leaks after sitting. i will have to check on those 2 seals

Re: torque converter replacement questions

Spray some foot powder around the area of the dipstick seal and the TV cable if it's leaking the powder will turn pink after it's exposed to the fluid. Did I understand you to say you didn't remove the pump? You may all so have a leak at the pump O ring try the powder trick any place you suspect the source to be . If it leaks while sitting I doubt the front pump seal is bad. There is no pressure when not running.
