Does Anybody Else Have This Problem With Their Shiftkit?

Ever since I adjusted my TV cable, the car has shifted much better and properly now, except now I can really feel the B&M shiftkit the previous owner put in the transmission.

Now keep in mind I don't think anything is mal-adjusted, under normal driving conditions there is a nice little bump during shifts, but no banging, slamming, and snapping into gear except under WOT. Everything seems to be working perfectly fine, except when it rains...

Under normal driving conditions, (especially before the transmission warms up and for the first 5 minutes of driving the car has to be taken to 3500 RPM for the 1-2 shift) during a shift I can feel a slight jerk from the back end. It almost feels as if the back end is wobbling or twisting but I know that It's just the wheels losing traction against the wet pavement for a fraction of a second.

During turns is what has me concerned. I have to take it slow and careful when making a turn in the rain. Just last night I was making a turn at a crowded intersection and under normal driving conditions, the trans shifted and hit 2nd gear right in the middle of the turn. The back end completely broke loose and it was like I hit a patch of black ice. I had to whip the wheel to regain control of the car.

So, does it sound like something is mal-adjusted, do I need better tires, or is just one of the drawbacks on a shiftkit installed in a DD?

I dont think that that your tv is malujusted. My experience with the bm kiits that they have a lot of line pressure even at light and part throttle givng you a great snappy shift just when you dont need it.That is why a lottle of people on here dont recommend it . do a search on the bnm kit aand check some of the post . A transgo kit does not have this prob.

For your tranny to have to shift at 3500 i would say you might want to loosen your TV cable one click from the adjustment you have and try it out. Honestly i dont think anything is misadjusted either. My car shifts hard going for second when its cold as well but im not sure what shift kit i have (PO did most mods). All i know is it doenst have to be taken to 3500 to shift. And if im light on the throttle its has no problem not shifting harsh.

I have one in my 96 Silverado and sometimes when it's wet it will break loose on the 1-2 shift. No tv cable there.
It also gives a nice little bump at low throttle, and kicks at higher throttle.
Shakes the whole body when it shifts at higher rpm's.

BTW I have the towing shift kit so it shouldn't kick as hard as a street strip kit.
Your car is also 2,000 2,500 pounds lighter too, so it dosen't sound abnormal to me.

My own experience with the B&M kit is that it may require changing the governor or axle ratio to get the behavior I was hoping for. The transgo kit does behave different, but since you have the B&M, consider changing the governor or axle ratio or both.

Re: Does Anybody Else Have This Problem With Their Shiftkit?

The trans only shifts at 3500 when it is still cold.

In fact, the entire car runs like crap until the engine/trans temps get up and the oil pressure drops. You'd think you were driving a $50 junker.

After everything warms up, it runs like fresh off the lot and shifts normal at about 2500.

Before I adjusted the TV cable, it ran absolutely terrible. I'd often have to let off the throttle for it to shift, even sometimes at half or 3/4 throttle. and mashing the pedal down would sometimes cause it to slip shift and the engine would rev but the car wouldn't move hardly at all.

The PO really did a hack job on alot of things.
