4th gen rear
I have heard you guys talk about ho the 4th gen rear ends bolt up with little/no modification. How hard would it be to put a rear from a 99Z with 4.10s on my car. I have rear drums, the new rear has disc brakes. What all is needed to do this swap? I know the new rears are about an inch longer on both sides, so what would be the correct backspacing to run so my wheels didnt stick out? Also, how much power do you think it can take? It has a torsen posi, G2 girdle, and LCA relocation brackets. Thanks!

The tech page on this site has an article about this swap. Everything should bolt up just like your factory axle but the 4th gen year is 2" wider per side. Sorry but I'm not sure what back spacing is correct. I'm using 99SS rims with mine. If you check out slp on the web they could probably tell you what you need to know about offset.

Thanks, I should have checked that out in the first place! It doesnt have any info on the drum-to-disc conversion, though. What all will be needed to do the swap? Can I use my exisitng master cylinder with a new proportioning valve? Thanks.
Scott, i put a 4th gen in my car going from drum to disc. The mastercylinder is the same but you need to change the proportioning valve.I used one out of a 92Z from thirdgenparts.Direct fit and works great.

This may sound stupid but can anything be swapped on the frontend from 4th to 3rd? I mean since your changing the rearend and gaining disk brakes and they're are 2" wider per side. Can the A-arms, spindles, front discs, and etc. be swapped also. To widen the same as rear and have better front brakes? Anyone tried? Just curious

No, the front suspension is setup differently, but I ask myself if there's a way to swap to 4thgen front brakes on my original frontend everytime I pull the wheels off of those things. They look sweet! Anybody know?
I like the Idea. Larger front disc brakes!
