Just installed Tremec 3550/TKO, but...

Well, I just had a Tremec 3550/TKO put into the Formula, however there's a problem. The shift handle is slamming into the top of the console when I try to shift into 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear. In fact, in order to shift at all, the top of the console had to be removed completely. So I guess I need a new shift handle. Does anyone know if I can just bolt on a Hurst shift handle (not the whole shifter, just the handle) onto the Tremec? They both appear to have the same 2-bolt pattern. If this works, I'll just get a handle with a bend in it so that it will clear the console. Thanks.

No there is a special shifter for this application. It is either in Jeg's or Summit. I think it was in Jeg's. It was a B&M ripper shifter. How much did this tranny swap cost you in all?? Thanks Derrick

When I did mine I got a new shifter with the transmission. It was modified to fit the 3rd gen console. Who did you get your trans from? I got mine from Forte's and like I said it included the shifter.

Hey, this is an easy fix! I got my TKO from Forte's, it included the shifter but no handle. They told me to weld a steal bar about 2" or so to the bottom of the shifter handle and bolt it to the shifter. You'll have to fool with it some to get it positioned where you like it & it is kind of a "make-shift" way to do things but it works non the less. I did it to my Hurst shifter and it works great. I think B&M makes the Ripper shifter for Tremec but don't know if it's for the Camaro/Firebirds or just Mustangs. Remember, even though the trans has adapters for our f-bodys, it's still a Mustang tranny! Hope this helps!
