i need to get a locker and 3.73s if they fit my rear. what would my gears be now and what splines would i have its an 88 iroc that had the ho 305 w/ tpi. i plan to race it and street it, when i do my trans i plan to do the rear. thanks for anyhting

 

if my rear housing says what gears i have, what number is it? i crawled under it and i got an estimation around 2.70 for the gears.i did this by turning the driveshaft and counting the revs. i also got several numbers some long, some short. what sould i look for?

 

you can do what you did but, both wheels must spinn the same other wise your diff gears change your readings. do you have your parts id sticker?
if so some of the codes are...GU2-2.73,GU4-3.08,GU5-3.23,GU6-3.42 These are just a few that are listed in the factory manual. other wise the housing is stamped and can be looked up. or third you can open it up. and count the teeth on the ring gear and count the teeth on the pinion then (r/p=ratio)

 

the ratio is stamped on the ring gear where you can see it after you pull the cover. it'll look something like this 43:11 just do the math and you have the ratio.

sorry just saw the spline question, should be 28, but could be 26. you'll have to pull an axle and count splines.
