I don't drive an IROC, but I put mine directly on the radiator, dead center. Front side.

I've got a trans cooler in my 86'berlinetta.Mounted it directly to the radiator,a little to the passenger side.I bi-passed the rad-trans cooler ,so i think my car actually runs cooler now. Before this,i used the old air conditioning condensor(hows that for recycling ?)That worked pretty well too.But my car is only driven in the summer,so i wouldn't recommend this as the trans might not get up to opperateing temperature when it's cold.

Above poster is right. If you bypass the radiator tranny cooler enirely and run a nice extrenal tranny cooler infron tof the radiator, the trans will never get warm and start to collect moisture in it. It is best to keep the radiator cooler somewhere in the path, believe it or not, as it acts as a "warmer" in winter and a "cooler" in summer, as long as your water temp is around 185 or so.

EDIT: BTW, I run the Perma-Cool Engine Oil THermostat in my tranny cooling system instead of using a radiator coolant tank. It bypasses 90% of the ATF from the external cooler (ie, goes right back into tranny) until it gets to 180deg and THEN starts letting more ATF into the external cooler. REAL nice here in the Northeast and with lockup tranny because, oherwise, fluid will NEVER warm up!!!
