Had a 84 700r4. it went out, just replaced it with a 87 r4. everything is in but the dip stick. problem: i'm reusing the 84 dipstick, but it seems too small for the 87 tranny, or am i missing a rubber boot or seal of some sort? my 84 700r4 didn't have a boot or anything. i can get the 87 dipstick (i have to talk to the guy i bought the 87 from, hes a jack@$$ but i'll deal with it.) if i need too. advise/facts? thanks

 

GM has been making the 700R/700R4 transmission the same for a while except for minor change, the dipstick was one of them, get the 87 one and you should be fine, and yes i kno that the 4l60 is purty much a 700r4 and so is the 4l60e its just electronicaly controled and shitier.
